Finishing Process

Q: How do you do it? It it a real carbon overlay? It it a carbon vinyl? Dose it adhere with double stick tape? Does it affect the fit of my OEM parts? Is it Magic?

A: It is a process that is called water transfer printing. The auto industry has been using this process for many years when adding wood, carbon fiber or other accents to the interior or exterior of cars.

Water Transfer Printing involves four stages: item preparation, film preparation, item decoration and item finishing.

The first of these stages (sand, prime and base coat,) can be undertaken in advance of the actual decorating but the remaining three stages must be completed as one procedure.

Stage 1.
A. Surface of item to be decorated is sanded to receive primer.
B. Item is shot with primer.
C. Item is shot with selected base coat.
D. Item is given time to dry.

Stage 2.
A. A piece of film, cut to accommodate the length of the item to be decorated is laid onto the water.
B. The Chemical activator is then applied to the film

Stage 3.
A. The item can now be slowly immersed into the tank.
B. Item is removed from the tank after being completely submerged.

Stage 4.
A. Item is immediately washed and dried.
B. Item is sprayed with an acrylic finish of choice, (high or low sheen.)

This process does not affect the fit of OEM parts and does not use any double side tape.

The results really do speak for themselves and to see it in person is to really see what these parts look like. Want to see a sample? Let us know and we will get one out to you.
